Documentary: Hong Kong: The strong contrast between Mother Nature and the Metropolis

Here is a video documentary about the life in Hong Kong now, decades after the British ceded the territory back to China.  Based on what I've heard from travelers, and workers to the region alike generally speaking I've mostly heard praise for the autonomous region in terms of layout, architecture, amenities, great views, etc.  It has a fantastic skyline with very tall skyscrapers.

The quality of life, and the manners, and customs of the people are much better than they are on the mainland.  Because Hong Kong has had a selective immigration policy, as well as strong competition for jobs, etc., this probably has had a eugenic effect on the population giving Hong Kong the highest average national IQ of any nation at around 108, according to Richard Lynn, though perhaps it's better to look at it like an autonomous province, which will soon become "fully integrated with China".

Somewhat of an aside regarding East Asia, and East Asians:

As far as East Asians are concerned based on my experiences, and travels in East Asia, I tend NOT to like Koreans, and think Korea is a miserable place.  Mainland China while vast and containing many marvelous things to see and do, is generally not a nice place to live.  I am more ambivalent about the Chinese, the population is large and varied, but they suffer from many of the same vices as Koreans, or so I've heard.  I have a positive image of the Japanese, in terms, of politeness, friendliness, honesty, the quality of life in Japan, the mindset, and the aesthetics.  The Japanese have less brachycephalic skulls, a tendency for thinner longer noses, and have brown eyes, instead of black.  I think they tend to look better.  In East Asia the really good countries are Japan, Hong Kong, and Macao (with the latter being a part of China) in the Northeastern part, and Singapore in the Southeastern part.  As far as travel is concerned in Southeast Asia the poorer countries is where you get more bang for your buck, but I'll cover that in another post.

Back to video:

In the video they discuss food, then at the 15 minute mark religion, then burial at about the 16 minute mark.  At the 19 minute mark pets are discussed. 20 minute mark is the large island nature reserve. More later... It's kind of slow pace, but if you're curious about one of the best, and most successful East Asian places in the world you may want to watch it.
