Activist at California slavery reparations meeting denounces proposed payment of $223,000: 'Not enough!' Story by Scott Whitlock • Saturday California’s reparations task force met again on Friday in San Diego with public comment from speakers who urged bold action and for the state to go forward with payments to African Americans as repayment for slavery. After comments by Dr. Shirley Weber, California Secretary of State, one speaker blasted the suggested amount of $223,000 per resident as insufficient. Reverend Tony Pierce came to the microphone and slammed the idea of limiting the cash payouts to California residents: "There should be no residency requirements for California! We have to encourage our people to come back to California! What better way to encourage our people to come back to California if we have no requirements?" "How will reparations be paid?" he added. "Immediately!"  After being told that his time is up, Pierce  yelled at t

Indiana university fired Black professor based on 'racist tropes': report Story by Matthew Chapman • 5h ago Black professor was fired from his position at Indiana University Northwest based on "racist tropes," and without an adequate opportunity to defend himself, argued a report from the American Association of University Professors, as  detailed  by Inside Higher Ed Monday. The professor, former IUN chief academic officer and communications professor Mark McPhail, was accused in 2021 by the university of saying “words to the effect that ‘the only way to end racism is to kill all the white people,’” according to the report, although McPhail disputes he ever said anything to that effect. He has since become a provost at Linfield University in Oregon. "A new AAUP report calls 'implausible' the allegation that the professor 'actually threatened to hurt white people,' noting one person it interviewed who called his manner 'mild and soothing,

Racism raises Alzheimer’s risk for non-white Americans, HHS says Story by Fox News • Dec 20, 2022 “Entrenched systemic racism” is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in non-white Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) claimed in its 2022 update on how to fight the disease. The HHS’ “National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease” said black, Hispanic and low-income populations are more likely to face health-related risk factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s and said this disparity is due to “structural inequities” that are the result of racism. Those inequities include “underinvestment in education systems, less walkable communities, decreased access to nutritious food , barriers to health care access and low quality of care in their communities.” The report recommended that one way to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s is to focus on “cultural competence and equity.” “This requires that addressing SDOH [social determinants of health], entre

Wealthiest Black Moms More Likely To Die In Childbirth Than Poorest White Moms Story by Haley Weiss • Jan 7 When women in America suffer, Black women suffer the most. Never is this truer than when it comes to  pregnancy , where staggering racial disparities in maternal and infant health represent an ongoing public health crisis in dire need of solutions. Here, in the  only industrialized country  where overall maternal mortality is rising, Black women remain  between three and four times  more likely than their white or Hispanic counterparts to die from pregnancy-related complications. And although Black women suffer above-average rates of pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia, uterine fibroids, and preterm birth, they’re also less likely to have access to quality care, creating a double-edged sword with compounding factors on both sides. A new study finds that even the wealthiest Black women are unable to escape this harm. “One hypothesis has been that at least some of

'Whole generation' of girls to lose out on medals due to 'ludicrous' trans policies Story by Ewan Somerville • Oct 24, 2022 Women’s sport “no longer exists” in the UK and a “generation” of girls could miss out on medals thanks to “ludicrous” transgender policies, Olympians have warned. Sharron Davies, who took silver for Britain in the 1980 Olympics, joined forces with Mara Yamauchi, the UK’s third fastest ever female marathoner, to demand urgent change. Sport chiefs have been grappling with how to include male-born trans women who wish to play in female categories. But the sports stars said current debates on the issue are flawed, as the focus on winning neglects women who will be “cheated” merely out of qualification places by rivals who have undergone male puberty.  Yamauchi, whose sixth place in the 2008 Olympics marathon was the joint best ever finish in an Olympic marathon by a British woman, pointed out she qualified for her first GB vest with a margin of just ei

A Trans Influencer Was Arrested in Miami. They Put Her in a Men’s Unit Story by CT Jones • Nov 9, 2022 Popular transgender beauty influencer Nikita Dragun has been released from jail after she was arrested following an altercation at a Miami hotel pool, Rolling Stone has confirmed. Police were called to the Goodtime Hotel in Miami Beach after reports that Dragun was acting in a disorderly fashion. She was arrested and charged with one count of felony battery, disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor battery. But according to documents reviewed by Rolling Stone, the influencer — who has spent much of her online career openly discussing her male-to-female transition and is now legally female — was listed as a male on her booking paperwork. And in hearing Wednesday morning before her release, Dragun said she was being in a men’s unit and requested to be moved. “Do I have to stay here in the men’s unit still?” she asks in a video of the hearing that began circulating online, appearing emoti

Dear Racist White People, My Hair Is Not A Toy And My Body Is Not A Zoo Story by Sughnen Yongo-Okochi • Oct 13, 2022 My Black hair and Black body are not artifacts to be examined. We should not be having these conversations in the 21st century. Your Comments Aren’t Helpful When I first got to college, a mostly white, religious school, I did not often see many Black people like me. At first, school settled into an easy yet stable cadence. Soon, I began to make friends, then came the comments about my body, hair and mannerisms. Over time, the comments that seemed initially innocent, and occasionally funny, transitioned into eerie remarks that made me increasingly uncomfortable. To say that I began to feel overwhelmed by the fascination with my body and hair is an understatement. Black Women Are Not Objects For Analysis It was only after graduation and spending several more years in the U.S that I realized that society’s  over-sexualization  and obsession with Black women’s hair and bo
