Media Bias/Fact Check's Biased and Fact Free Evaluation of American Renaissance

Media Bias/Fact Check: American Renaissance

Southern Poverty Law Center: American Renaissance & Jared Taylor

We are the most comprehensive media bias resource on the internet. There are currently 3000+ media sources listed in our database and growing every day. Don’t be fooled by Fake News sources...

A questionable source exhibits one or more of the following: extreme bias, consistent promotion of propaganda/conspiracies, poor or no sourcing to credible information, a complete lack of transparency and/or is fake news. Fake News is the deliberate attempt to publish hoaxes and/or disinformation for the purpose of profit or influence (Learn More). Sources listed in the Questionable Category may be very untrustworthy and should be fact checked on a per article basis...

Overall, we rate American Renaissance Questionable based on Extreme Right Wing Bias, promotion of propaganda and conspiracy theories as well as being labeled a hate group by numerous sources.

Reasoning: Extreme Right, Hate Group, Propaganda, PseudoscienceCountry: USA

American Renaissance Magazine is owned and published by the New Century Foundation which is a think tank that promotes pseudo-scientific studies and research that purport to show the inferiority of blacks to whites.

In review, American Renaissance Magazine publishes news that is considered racist and supports white supremacy. A frequent topic on the website is the debunked notion that there is a connection between race and IQ.

Because I enjoy investigating different points of view, and questioning my own opinions, the matter of bias does not really bother me. I assume that journalists and editors have different values and concerns, and that these influence how they see and report the news.

What I insist on is honesty. The lies of Rush Limbaugh have been exposed since 1992.

Media Bias/Fact Check's evaluation of American Renaissance accuses it of promoting "pseudo-scientific studies," but it does not explain what is "pseudo" about the scientific studies that appear on American Renaissance. It accuses American Renaissance of advancing "the debunked notion that there is a connection between race and IQ."

When was that notion debunked? I had not noticed. Two decades after the civil rights legislation was passed into law and the War on Poverty was inaugurated, and after more recent and expensive government spending programs like Head Start and No Child Left Behind this is still true:

This is also still true:

Gould withholds from his readers that The Bell Curve is mainly an empirical work about the causes of social stratification and that it reached its conclusions only after fully analyzing a 12-year longitudinal study of 12,486 youths (3,022 of whom were African American) which showed that most 17-year-olds with high IQs (Blacks as well as Whites) went on to occupational success by their late 20s and early 30s whereas many of those with low IQs (both Black and White) went on to welfare dependency. The average IQ for African Americans was found to be lower than those for Latino, White, Asian, and Jewish Americans (85, 89, 103, 106, and 115, respectively, pp. 273-278).

Where is there evidence anywhere in the world of innate intellectual equality?

Media Bias/Fact Check's biased and fact free denunciation of American Renaissance resembles the way the Southern Poverty Law Center condemns American Renaissance and Jared Taylor.

This is what SPLC has to say about American Renaissance:

"In Its Own Words

"'In fact, blacks and Hispanics are, compared to whites, far more likely to be poor, illiterate, on welfare, or in jail; they are far more likely to have illegitimate children, be addicted to drugs, or have AIDS. By no definition of international competitiveness can the presence of these populations be anything but a disadvantage.'
— "'‘Who Speaks for Us?' (A Word of Introduction to Our Readers),' American Renaissance, 1990"
Notice that these are factual assertions that SPLC does not even try to disprove. Then there is this:
"After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, the magazine ratcheted up its customary attacks on black people, particularly in an error-ridden essay by Taylor that said the hurricane 'was an excuse [for blacks] to loot, rob, rape and kill'."
Jared Taylor described the black response to Hurricane Katrina in his essay "Africa in Our Midst." I invite you to read it and I challenge you to draw my attention to any errors in it at all.

Some of the comments on American Renaissance can get wild and woolly. After I made the "Comments of the Week list two weeks in a row, someone posted this comment about me:

"That guy is repulsive. You should ask John what sort of brilliant job he has, and what kind of car he drives. Last I heard he is down and out. I don't know [sic] amren sees in the guy. There is a liberal in the woodpile."

Nevertheless, I have never read a news story or essay posted on American Renaissance that made a factual assertion that was not true.

The fact that opponents of race realism must resort to name calling, ad hominem insults, and outright censorship is strong evidence that truth is not on their side.
This is what SPLC has to say about Jared Taylor:
"Taylor entered the active racist scene in 1990, when he founded the New Century Foundation, a pseudo-intellectual think tank that promotes “research” arguing for white superiority. A year later, he began publishing American Renaissance, a magazine that focused on the alleged links between race and intelligence, and on eugenics, the now discredited “science” of breeding better humans...

"In the late 1990s, Taylor came out with The Color of Crime, a booklet that tried to use crime statistics to “prove” that blacks are far more criminally prone than whites."
 https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/jared-taylor

There is no explanation of what is "pseudo-intellectual" about the findings of the New Century Foundation. Nor are we told how eugenics has somehow been "discredited." Eugenics was once respectable in the United States. Claiming that it is somehow "Nazi" is an example of the guilt by association fallacy.

Finally, the assertions of The Color of Crime are substantiated by the United States Department of Justice, which has reported:

"Based on available data from 1980 to 2008—  Blacks were disproportionately represented as both homicide victims and offenders. The victimization rate for blacks (27.8 per 100,000) was 6 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000). The offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000)."

The Southern Poverty Law Center quotes passages from writings by Jared Taylor. No effort is made to refute Jared Taylor's assertions. Readers are expected to respond with anger and dislike for Jared Taylor. When one is accused of racism, truth is no defense. It is evidence for the prosecution. If all I knew about Jared Taylor were denunciations of him on the Southern Poverty Law Center website, I would agree with Jared Taylor and disagree with SPLC.

In his essay "The Racial Ideology of Empire: the Roots of our Crisis Go Deep Into the Past," which was included in his book If We Do Nothing, Jared Taylor wrote, "race has been a subject on which the more one ignores both the scientific evidence and the testimony of experts, the more enlightened one can appear."
