Prof. Philippe Rushton Ethnic Nationalism and Genetic Similarity Theory (AmRen 1998) (*highly recommended*)
Throughout nature like generally attracts like. Evolution is all about replicating genes, so why does altruism exist? From an evolutionary standpoint all should be in competition with one another. Dr. Rushton states that a big part of the answer comes from genetic-similarity theory. It pays off from a gene perspective to be altruistic to your kin since they carry some of the same alleles as you do. People who aren't your direct kin can still be related to you in a more distant way. Dr. Rushton shows that the tendency to be endogamous and favour closer related kin goes all throughout the animal kingdom, and appears in the plant kingdom as well, he provides several examples. Mates choose each other based on the most heritable traits, best friends also tend to choose each other on the most heritable traits. Either if it is within a racial group or between racial groups people tend to like those that have the similar appearance, temperament, level of conscientiousness, the similar values, and attitudes, similar IQ, and so forth.
Dr. Rushton mentions that ethnic identity and nationalism is a natural outgrowth from this idea, and as opposed to social scientists that see it as some kind of disordered trait, or deranged trait of going back to the caveman it's completely backwards in that it is exactly what evolution favoured in terms of reproductive success. One of the things Rushton left out here is the idea that people also choose mates that complement their traits, to make up for what they may lack, and so forth, but that is another subject altogether.
Again, regardless of if it's within a race, or between races people tend to like others like themselves, they tend to be antagonistic towards those unlike themselves. To this it must be added that if those others have also been rude, disrespectful, aggressive, mendacious, violent, or have traits that lead to such it will also naturally lead to antagonism, which as I'm sure everyone who isn't a complete lying, hypocritical, "liberal", egalitarian, or whatever, will recognize and admit to. I've watched this video probably more than 5 times since it was released, and I highly recommend it.
PS: In my own life I definitely noticed that I tend to like people who are like myself, and those with more similar views and attitudes. Dealing with stupid, and aggressive people who treat others condescendingly really reinforced that. As did going to school ("skoo?") with those highly unlike myself. Not everyone but really the worst from just about every race aside from the Australian Aborigine (I've never met one). I do and can however like people who have virtues that I admire and are honourable, and of course I can feel compassion towards any conscious being as long as it isn't scum.
PPS: Speaking of favouring others like ourselves, and all of the aggression of those chimpanzees Rushton was talking about, I was thinking that the modern PC concept (in places like Canada and Sweden for example) that we have to like others, and respect them even when they are stupid, callous, and aggressive towards us, and do things that completely ruin our lives is something I don't even really have a word for. Stupid, cruel, insane (beyond any actual kind of so-called "mental illness"), cult, I don't even know what to call it. Generally that type of ideology is kept together by hiring security, police, etc., and so using force, and pressure against those who speak out, or act out against it. Which leads me into writing another article about maintaining a society based on a false view of human nature, and the negative consequence of allowing the criminaloids in attaining positions of power and public trust. Something I've wanted to write for a while but haven't had time as of yet.
