Work - Review: Workaway, HelpX, etc., Suck. They Are For Losers, The Desperate, And People Who Kiss Ass (Unless You Fit Into Those STAY AWAY)

    I'd like to start off by saying that the site called workaway should be called stay-away, as in stay the fuck away.  These types of programs like workaway or HelpX are supposedly to help travellers find hosts to offset the costs of their travel, and do some interesting projects.  Whereas in reality it is just a bunch of people looking for low cost exploitative labour that they can find and expect professional level service, along with passion and enthusiasm, etc., for a bunch of tedious and degrading work. I think most normal people who have a bit of sense as well as skepticism and cynicism could basically just tell that from the get go.

    For the most part it's not as if you are going to volunteer to work for UNICEF somewhere or anything like that, you're there to help people who basically cannot afford hired workers. Frequently but not always you will have to live with them in their houses, often in crappy conditions, sometimes in a room full of other people, or alternatively in a van outside, or some crappy cottage somewhere without basic facilities. If you're in a place like East Asia, or God Forbid Southeast Asia, you will probably be working for some recruiter to teach part time in some of the shitty schools that they have there where the students are like cattle, and the "curriculum" looks like it was some high school drop out's 10 minute planning. God damn.  The conditions are usually degrading and abusive, and they expect you to literally kiss their asses, and be happy all of the time, smile like you were fucking winning the lottery or something.

    Unlike in the general standard that people have of work, i.e. that they just fulfill their assigned duties and have no further obligation, these places require you to kiss ass and make them all happy so THEY can make as much money from you as they can while you get next to NOTHING. It's God Damn pathetic. The other thing is that if you get hurt or sick or something, as you are just a commodity for the host they will take it out on you...LMAO. In short it is just a crappy scam.

    However, I will say that it can be quite abusive when the host literally starts harassing, and abusing you all of the time, and literally expects a level of subservience most people couldn't put up with even if they had a SHRED of dignity.

    In the Western world you are usually assigned menial and tedious tasks that the host expects you to be super enthusiastic about and to go above and beyond what is expected. I can't believe some people are actually willing to do all of that for some meagre recommendation, etc., and without pay generally speaking.  Even when I work at a paid job I don't do any of that, and for me to actually start behaving like what is expected, I would want like at least $5000 per month, otherwise I would just run away. Generally speaking as I've said this program is for LOSERS, the DESPERATE, and the SUBSERVIENT (people who kiss ass or enjoy kissing ass).

    I was of the category B) The desperate.  I just needed to offset the costs of living as I was abroad, and although I value some of my travel time, I sure as fucking Hell do not value any of that workaway, HelpX nonsense.  I hadn't had ONE good experience with any of the freaks on there.  The only good thing is that it gave me a window into how unpleasant people are or could be, but oh wait I was already aware of that...a shudder of disgust runs through my body as I write this.

    Now that I'm back home and have a real job again (at least until coronavirus shuts my company down EDIT: This has already happened) it is literally nothing like this, I mean sure there are still expectations, but NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING like in what I've described above, also the abusive kind of behaviour is also not there, and hey I actually make money and the company treats me with DIGNITY and RESPECT, and doesn't expect me to lick their asses.

    All in all I would say stay the FUCK away from these kinds of sites, and for the love of GOD stay away from doing this in non-White third world shitholes, outside of places like Japan, Singapore, etc., the non-White world isn't exactly roses, and in those East Asian countries subservience is expected.

    Seriously, only go abroad if you can AFFORD to travel, or unless you have a PAID job there, otherwise do not do it.  As soon as I started doing this kind of stuff the travelling fun stopped.  I've had horrendous PAID working experiences but who cares, I actually got PAID for that, whatever the scum that hired me think of me, I couldn't give any less of a rat's ass about, fact is I got the money. I'm not being arrogant here, my point is these places are exploitative and abusive, comparing that with my current job which is totally unlike that I know that this is the truth.  I mean of course working in Canada and USA you can still get exploitative, and abusive employers, but there are definitely decent ones too. Like I said AVOID these sites at all costs they are for losers, the desperate, and the subservient. In case 1 and 3 all I can say is stop, get a backbone, and get a real job, in case 2 I will say do EVERYTHING in your power to avoid having to be desperate.
