Sunday Night at The Movies: The Black Pirate (1926)
Hello again, sorry all for the lack of postings as I explained in the last post I'm very short on time right now. One of the films that I wanted to share which was a favourite of mine is called The Black Pirate, starring Douglas Fairbanks (Sr). I discovered this film I believe ten years ago, and have been hooked on Douglas Fairbanks since. I question his leaving of his second wife, as well, as his friendship with Charlie Chaplin who I feel did the wrong by marrying someone 1/3 his age. But as an actor and personality I feel that he was just too damn good.
He was always so athletic, energetic, virtuous, and adventuresome. He was everyman's hero, and him and his second wife Mary Pickford were Hollywood's first "it" couple.
This is another one of a handful of silent colour films. It is a great swashbuckler, I watched it after a horrible event happened in my life (one of many) and it cheered me up and inspired me. It has great music and some great action and shows off why I like Douglas Fairbanks so much. Really great music as well. I highly recommend this film, tipsy or not.
"In 1993, The Black Pirate was included in the annual selection of 25 motion pictures to be added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". [1] [2]"

This film is highly esteemed and it was the third technicolor film. I love this one, I find it inspirational.
Fairbanks biographer Jeffrey Vance maintains that “The Black Pirate was the most carefully prepared and controlled work of Fairbanks’s entire career” and “the most important feature-length silent film designed entirely for color cinematography.”
